Wales v South Africa at the Millennium Stadium Cardiff 29/11/14

Another busy weekend for A Class Drivers with airport transfers and long distance taxi journeys across the country. This weekend brings the last in the autumn test series of Rugby Internationals, Wales welcoming the South African rugby team to the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday. Can Wales beat South Africa? I think so! After a very brave strong effort against the worlds’ best New Zealand, held for nearly 70 minutes, the final scoreline did not reflect the rugby played by Wales that day and then only foiled by a charge down and the bounce of the ball twice in the last ten minutes, I like to think they can!

A Class Drivers Long Distance Taxi & Airport Transfers – Remembrance Sunday

A very busy weekend for us at A Class Drivers, indeed, after also a very busy week in the lead up to the first International Rugby match, Australia playing Wales at the Millennium Stadium. We completed several airport transfers from Heathrow to Cardiff and returns for avid Australian fans, and brought a family of Australian rugby fans from Leeds to Cardiff for the weekend. On Remembrance Sunday, veterans of the second world war travelled with us to London for events there.

Meanwhile, clocking up more long distance taxi journeys, A Class Drivers travelled the length and breadth of South Wales, bringing veterans and families of those that served during the war down from many parts of Wales to attend the Remembrance service in Cardiff. We were pleased to support members of the armed forces, past or presently serving by offering a 10% discount on all our airport transfers and long distance taxi journeys.

A Class Drivers Long Distance Taxi & Airport Transfers – Remembrance Sunday Cardiff 2014

Thousands paid their respects at Wales’ national Remembrance Sunday event that took place in Cardiff, where wreaths were laid at the National War Memorial in Cathays Park after a parade through the Civic Centre. First Minister Carwyn Jones was amongst the dignitaries to lay wreaths at the Cenotaph, and a Welsh national field of remembrance with 10,000 wooden crosses has also been opened at Cardiff Castle.

Prime Minister David Cameron described this year’s Remembrance Sunday as “particularly poignant” as 2014 marked the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War, the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings and the end of Britain’s 13-year conflict in Afghanistan.

Access to Cardiff Airport during NATO Wales Summit 2014

Published: 27 August 2014

Information for all

Cardiff Airport will remain open and operate ‘business as usual’ during the NATO Wales Summit on 4th and 5th September and in the days leading up to the Summit. It is expected that all scheduled and charter flights will be operating as normal.

Passengers will be able to access the Airport via the main eastern approach (from Cardiff/Barry) with parking, pick up and drop off and public transport access unaffected.  The western approach (from Llantwit Major) will be closed periodically and passengers will access and exit the Airport site via the eastern route.

Passengers are advised to leave extra time when travelling to and from Cardiff Airport during these dates to allow for any possible disruption on the roads in and around the region.

Statement from Vale of Glamorgan Council

Traffic restrictions during NATO Summit

The Vale of Glamorgan Council will be implementing temporary traffic restrictions to ensure the free flow of traffic and to manage any inappropriate parking close to Cardiff Airport during the NATO summit in September.

The temporary legal order will be in place between 12:00 Tuesday 02 September and 23.59 Friday 05 September 2014.

The order will prohibit waiting on Rhoose Road between the roundabout with Porthkerry Road and the road’s end. The road will remain open. However, a temporary legal order will be in place to enable the police to close the road if required. Waiting will also be prohibited on the unnamed roads that lead from Porthkerry Road to Porthkerry village.

Residents on the roads affected will be receiving letters from the Council giving them further details of the restrictions.

Operational Manager for Highways and Engineering, Michael Clogg, said: “Access and parking for residents and businesses along Rhoose Road will be maintained at all times and every effort will be made to minimise any disruption. Temporary parking permits will be issued to all residents and businesses who are registered keepers of vehicles along Rhoose Road before  02 September.”

The Vale of Glamorgan Council will be providing a private parking area at the Porthkerry Caravan site for any aviation enthusiasts who will be coming to Cardiff Airport during the NATO Summit.

A number of footpaths in Penmark will also be closed between 03 September and 05 September: Footpath no’s 9, 9A, 10, 15, 20 along with the restricted by- way known as Penmark no 18.

More information about the likely impact of the Summit can be found online at

Porthkerry Leisure Park is providing a private parking area for any aviation enthusiasts who will be coming to Cardiff Airport during the NATO Summit. Temporary road signs will direct visitors to the site. The car park will be open from 2pm on Tuesday 2nd September and from 6am Wednesday 3rd – Friday 5th September 2014. The parking fee will be £3.00 per car with all proceeds being donated to charity by the owners of Porthkerry Leisure Park.
